Mannerisms;
Stavos is known to cock his head and bob it slightly back and forth when considering a person or adversary. It is a mannerism he developed after losing an eye in combat. This shifting perspective helps him to gain a fuller appreciation for a subject, compensating for his loss of stereoscopic vision.
Distinguishing Features;
Stavos has lost the use of an eye due to an arrow wound during a battle in his early adulthood. He wears an eyepatch to cover the wound and preserve his good looks as best he can. He wears expensively detailed but light leather armor and a brimmed hat of the Bravosi style. His weapon of choice is a curved blade with a knucklebow
Family History:
House Clegane was founded when Clegane, the Kennelmaster of Riverrun, saved his King, Lord Tytos Lannister, during a hunting expedition when the King was attacked by a Lioness. Clegane lost three dogs and a leg in the encounter, but was granted a House name, Lands, and a keep in Lordsport, displacing House Botley which had previously held the area. For King Tytos, this was more than the simple gratitude, it seemed. He wanted to keep an eye on the Iron Islanders and the Freys in particular, as they were known to fund raids upon mainland holdings. With Lord Clegane at Lordsport, there was the hope that a semblance of order could be maintained.
Though this situation immediately put Lord Clegane in conflict with the Iron Islanders, he did not mind. He had elevated his family well beyond his wildest aspirations. He took the coat of arms of three dogs on a yellow field, to honor the three dogs lost in attaining his Lordship, and also to honor his three sons. These sons grew up on Lordsport for the most part, learning the ways of the port and the ways of the sea. When Clegane passed away at age 50 from a recurring infection in his leg, his eldest son Stavos claimed the House, appointing the next eldest son as Commander for House Clegane's modest (but skilled) naval forces.
Personal History: Stavos is the shortest and eldest of three sons of Clegane, founder of House Clegane. He is notable in his House for being a competent sailor, and has some fame relating to battles conducted against pirates at sea. He has a reputation as an able swordsman who relies on nimbleness more than raw power in battle. During a sea battle with pirates when he was sixteen, he lost an eye to an arrow. However, he acquitted himself well in the conflict and earned a good reputation for his family. Though he is theoretically at a disadvantage in combat due to his vision being impaired, he has often enough skewered men with two good eyes in duels. While Stavos is a fighter of notable ability, he is equally noted for his tendency to use deception and cunning when confronting an enemy force. He is not above sneaking around in the dark and slitting throats, though now that he has claimed Lordship of his House, he must leave such shenanigans to other men. House Clegane is utterly loyal to the Lannisters for arranging their rise. The House is also in regular conflict with the Iron Islanders, and particularly with House Botley, as they resent an outsider's presence on their territory.
Stavos enjoys a Braavosi style of dress and combat mostly on account of his instruction in seamanship being at the hands of a Braavosi Sea Captain named Droseri, hired by his father to educate his children. This unusual choice was made because none of the local Iron Islanders could be trusted not to kill or kidnap the foreign Lordlings, and most would have been resentful of educating mainlanders in the ways of the sea.
It is a special concern of Stavos to obtain a Valerian Steel weapon for House Clegane, as all of the most respected Houses have one, and he is concerned that House Clegane will not be taken seriously by other Houses if he can not obtain such an article of status.
